The article is very interesting, it reflects whether it is possible or not to implement the Communicative Approach “in real life”. On one hand there is the theory (very clear statements and the goal teachers and students have to reach), but on the other hand the practice (issues which teachers have to face in order to build the teaching practice following Communicative Approach).
It is a relief to know that there are many teachers facing the same doubts and problems that I do. I agree that the theory sounds very engaging and it leads me to think that I want to teach in that way.
In my case, working with a text works. I am aware that it is very structured and limited, but if I weren’t working with a book I would use worksheets and at the end it´s the same… because I have to follow what the school syllabus says.
I also felt a great relief to see that there are many teacher who have the same worries that I have sometimes. There are many times in which things don't turn out as we had planned them and we get descouraged. But many times things don' turn out as we panned them due to external factors that we cannot manage. The whole theory sounds great and we try to follow it and apply it as much as we can, but we should not get discouraged or dissapointed on ourselves if sometimes we don't get to do it.
ResponderEliminarI agree with you Alejandra, the theory sounds great and it would be great that we could apply it more, but when you have a class where there are 25, 30, 40 students and when you have to follow a very structure syllabus gave by the school it is difficult. But I think that when we are introducing new activities we are making a change.
ResponderEliminarAle, I also think that the theory sounds great, but it's difficult take it to the classroom, but I believe that if we are conscious that some changes need to be done you are in the right way. Of course in your school the book is a great support. I'm sure that with your right motivation your girls will love to learn English.
ResponderEliminarI agree! But I believe that only thinking on the best way in which we should teach, it is Ok! it is the first step of start doing things better!
